In solidarity with the Palestinian neighbourhood Sheikh Jarrah, currently being bulldozed and facing other repression, actions took place up and down the country targeting Barclays for their heavy investment in various arms companies; and Bath was no different.

In November 2009 Barclays were targeted nationwide by individuals concerned by capitalisation of war for profit. Yet the bank which relied heavily upon publicly-funded liquidity schemes to survive the credit crunch has refused to listen to public opinion. Loss of Innocence: Gaza Children’s Artwork opened in Liverpool Cathedral last September and has been touring ever since.

By kind permission of the Vicar, the Rev. Colin Alsbury, the exhibition will be on display in St John’s Church, Frome.

Good news for all Bristolians passionate about opposing the culture of war: an estimated eight hundred campaigners from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and a number of other countries have joined a blockade of every gate of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, Berkshire, England. [1] The blockade started at 7am.

Bristol has a long history of activity against the war machine. Support the Decommissioners!

Frome Friends of Palestine are proud to announce that Frome will be hosting an important exhibition of children’s art. Last year’s bombardment of Gaza left at least 300 children dead, and over 1400 children lost one or both of their parents. A third of children now suffer from mental health problems and all of them are traumatized.

A British soldier who refused to return to Afghanistan and then joined an anti-war demonstration has been arrested and could face up to 10 years in prison. In October 2009, Lance Cpl. Joe Glenton, 27, led a protest in London against the continued presence of British troops in Afghanistan. He has been charged with desertion, but now is facing five new offenses for protesting. The new charges could mean a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday 28 January the leaders of the NATO occupation of Afghanistan are coming to Central London for a conference organised by Gordon Brown to discuss the next steps in their war effort. President Karzai, Hilary Clinton, President Sarkozy and Angela Merkel are among those expected to attend. Stop the War will organise a protest at the conference.
