Good news for all Bristolians passionate about opposing the culture of war: an estimated eight hundred campaigners from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and a number of other countries have joined a blockade of every gate of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, Berkshire, England. [1] The blockade started at 7am.

Frome Friends of Palestine are proud to announce that Frome will be hosting an important exhibition of children’s art. Last year’s bombardment of Gaza left at least 300 children dead, and over 1400 children lost one or both of their parents. A third of children now suffer from mental health problems and all of them are traumatized.

A British soldier who refused to return to Afghanistan and then joined an anti-war demonstration has been arrested and could face up to 10 years in prison. In October 2009, Lance Cpl. Joe Glenton, 27, led a protest in London against the continued presence of British troops in Afghanistan. He has been charged with desertion, but now is facing five new offenses for protesting. On Thursday 28 January the leaders of the NATO occupation of Afghanistan are coming to Central London for a conference organised by Gordon Brown to discuss the next steps in their war effort. President Karzai, Hilary Clinton, President Sarkozy and Angela Merkel are among those expected to attend. Stop the War will organise a protest at the conference.
