![]() Mayoral candidate to cut the bull and get things done.
Rich Fisher the latest candidate for the Bristol Mayorship pledges to cut through the red tape and get things done and that means completed. Still alive after an almost fatal multiple stabbing in 2003 Mr. Fisher has lived across great change and involved himself in many Bristol projects including Save The Malago Greenway, The Rapid Transit Bus Network, various voluntary work and input into the Callington Road hospital. He feels compassionate about his City of over 30 years habitation and wants Bristol to think hard before selling off more green spaces especially playing fields and allotments. Transport and the proposed Arena are issues close to his heart but most important is to generate industry within the city especially manufacturing and entertainment. "We are builders, makers, artists, engineers, musicians, architects, psychologists etc, etc and we should be making quality products because we can and we can be very good at it. I have ideas to mobilise Bristol and encompass all the resources we have. Bristol has enormous reserves of talent and I would like to see this talent given a chance to shine through input into the industry that I want to set up. Too often employers expect the winning candidate to have a wealth of experience before being taken on - putting them in a catch 22 situation. I want to create opportunity without marginalising social groups and generate purposeful interesting work with a bright future. I want to cut through restrictive processes that stifle ideas and provide real tax breaks to encourage growth" Ultimately I would like to see Bristol industry flourish and be proud to have the words 'Made in Great Bristol' printed on the products. We can set an example to the rest of the country. Mr. Fisher has no business interests or political agenda and thinks that some of his ideas may not sit well with all the Council but wants to be in constant dialogue and work with the Council rather than adopting a top down approach. He also stresses the need to use the new technologies to get the input of the people "It is our City after all and there are ways to involve the people and give them a real say"
He has set up a Facebook page that encourages ideas and opinions and doesn't just have fluffy pictures of cats on it. You can access it at http://www.facebook.com/richfisher4mayor
