Badger Trust public meeting

The Somerset Badger Group has issued the following press release:

The Badger Trust have decided to host an indoor meeting at the University of the West of England, Bristol on Wednesday 29th August 2012...... commencing promptly at 7.00 p.m. Short (10 minute) presentations will be made on the impact on badgers in the pilot cull areas if shooting starts in the Autumn and what it will mean for the local badger groups in those areas, there will be an update on the legal aspects and on the Badger Trust vaccination programme, an eminent scientist will speak and be available to answer any questions at the end of the formal presentations, as will all other presenters. We shall allow about an hour for questions and answers and the meeting will last for c. 2 hours.

Some of the Badger Trust directors will either speak or be in attendance and the main focus of the meeting will be to discuss what individuals can do to help the local badger groups as even at this late stage, there are many simple actions which can be taken by those living inside and outside the killing areas.

Admission is free and the lecture theatre we have booked will hold 250 people seated and up to 20 more standing. The meeting is open to anybody concerned about the welfare of badgers, so members of the public, farmers and landowners, other animal welfare organisations, the media, MP’s, our supporters and our groups are all very welcome to join us. This is a unique opportunity for members of groups in the West Country to come along to meet some of the directors of Badger Trust. We hope to see many of you there, not only from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucestershire, but also from adjacent counties. There is ample parking at the University but to minimise costs of travel, perhaps several members of a group can think about car sharing or even hiring a mini bus to accommodate larger numbers.

Further details will follow but in the meantime, it would be very helpful if you could let our office know if you intend to be there, so that we have some idea of the numbers to expect. We are not able to reserve places - on the night it will be first come, first served! Admission will be possible from 6.30 p.m. for a prompt 7.00 p.m. start.

Please note that other than a small bottle of water, no food or drink is permitted inside the Lecture Theatre. The University has been very generous to us in terms of the cost of hiring the room so please respect their rules and do not bring flasks of tea/coffee or packets of sandwiches.
