The riots were not about “criminality” or “mindless violence”. Political slogans such as “Whose streets, our streets”, demands for “Justice” and denunciations of the police featured in all the protests. The backdrop is the deepening of the capitalist crisis. The anarchy of the market is far more devastating than the supposed anarchy on the streets. The bankers and businessmen, who continue to grab bonuses even as wages are hammered, have enriched themselves more effectively than any looter. It’s one year on from the Bristol Riots and the August Riots against the murder of Mickey Duggan in London. This meeting will reflect on the riots, examine the underlying causes and ask questions about our right to protest in an age of austerity.

It seems the socialist old guard can't even organise a meeting these days without throwing in a back handed comment about anarchism into the fray. The sentence: "The anarchy of the market is far more devastating than the supposed anarchy on the streets," reeks of tabloid sensationalism, depicting anarchism as nothing more than pure chaos rather a viable political alternative.

The SWP would do better to concentrate on the real enemies instead of constantly attacking the anarchists, be in overtly or subtlety.

Oh, and it's Mark Duggan, not Mickey Duggan.

Firstly I'm not an anarcho but do have some understanding of anarchistic principals and I also would never describe "the market" as being anarchistic in any way, shape or form.

I would though describe the market as being fascist within the definition that Benito Musollini used “The definition of fascism is The marriage of corporation and state ” .

You can call the present market many things;

The market is a ponzi scheme, look up fractional banking, where privately owned central banks issue loans in the form of fiat currency to governments with compound interest, the original loan can never be paid off.

The market is outright criminal fraud, see the present investigations into the LIBOR fraud, where the major banks have manipulated one of the bencemark standards for interest rates. A raft of private law suits are starting over this as the major banks have defrauded savers, inflated their own bottom line profits and hugely distorted the securities derivatives market which is apparently worth over 800 trillion. Through manipulating the LIBOR rate they have also increased the bonus pool they've been paid.

The market is not a free market economy but a hierarchical structure that serves the sole interests of the elite oligarchs.

To say the market is anarchical is purely disingenuous at best.
