![]() A recent quorate meeting of the Bristol Smokers Alliance agreed the following form of words:
The Alliance recognizes the excellent support work of the following bars on the Gloucester Road: 1 The Blue Lagoon 2 Cafe Grounded 3 Halos 4 Robin Hoods Retreat
The Alliance calls on the Government to 1. abandon its ludicrous and unsustainable bans on smoking 2. get these smelly dangerous and expensive heaps of tin (cars) off our roads as quickly as possible 3. recognise the irreversible damage they are doing to the Pub trade in this country before it's too late.

I am unable to walk down the street with out choking as people like you blow your smoke into my personnal space. What gives you the right to force me to inhale your second hand smoke?
I am unable to drink in The POW as I can't use the toilets due to the smokers in the garden. I am sure that this smoke filled area breaks the legisation. I hate walking into some pubs as I have to walk past people like you filling the door way puffing out your cancer inducing filthy smoke.
I regularly drink on Gloucester Road and the pubs I go to really busy with lots of customers, at times it seems to tgake a long time to be served.
I like a drink, the by product of me drinking is my urine. You smoke, the by product of your fags is smoke. it gets into my lungs, clothes and generally makes me feel really very ill. I don't mind you smoking next to me as long as I can piss all over you. In my books this is a fair exchange of the consequences of our actions.
"This well-conducted study shows a clear association between the smoking ban and a decreased rate of hospital admissions for heart attack. As the study did not look at smoking status or people’s exposure to second-hand smoke before the ban, it is not possible to say how much of the decline is due to less exposure to second-hand smoke and how much is due to people giving up smoking."
I think we're done here.
I tend to think that 'Do what thou wilt and harm no other' is a reasonable way to get through life. Sadly smoking in indoor public spaces doesn't cut it in that respect - loads of evidence on how passive smoking causes health problems for those exposed to it. If nothing else, it's not at all fair to employ people to work in a room full of carcinogenic smoke. Smoking is fine, but don't force it on those who don't want it.
Funny how 'Bristol Smoker's Alliance' never publish their contact details or advertise their meetings.
By 'quorate meeting' I suspect they mean 4 disgruntled mates standing outside a pub in the rain.
