At the end of March public pressure forced a retreat by the Council over proposed sell-offs of several council-owned green spaces. This ecoshow concert celebrates this and other events.

Since 2009 The Bristol Ecoshow has been a part of the coming together of local green campaigners, walkers, artists and community groups around the notion of ‘custodianship’ of the city’s green spaces, featuring the many streams which connect us, and other living things, together.

Two superb outfits, the mesmerising Galaxie Band and the ever popular Celtic Roots musicians, The Perfect Cure Band support this celebration.

The evening will feature food, film and displays of some ecoshow walks and events around Colliters Brook, Pigeon House Stream The Malago, Brislington Brook and other streams and rivers.

More than a concert, in the first half the audience and musicians will intermingle in ‘Irish session’ style. Tunes and stories of places and the battles fought to save them- and struggles to come- will interchange.

The second half will be a concert performance by Master Kora player Moussa Kouyate and his Galaxie Band. International Artist (WOMAD, Glastonbury, Royal festival Hall, Barcelona World Music Fest etc) Moussa is a hereditary player and instrument maker descended from the “griot” family Kouyate, fathers of west African music, advisors to kings and holders of the anthology of the music of the Mandinka people since 1235.

The Bristol Ecoshow seeks to learn from more earth-based cultures than our own, such as Moussa’s, how to build community including all Earth’s inhabitants. Custodianship of nature is an identity and role that ecoshow members have learned to adopt from indigenous cultures around the world.

Re-formed this spring the Galaxie Band and Moussa together have been called ‘amazing, really transporting and relaxing’ (St Johns Ambulance Youth Officer).
