![]() The Bristol Bierkeller Theatre (All Saints Street, Bristol), previously known only for its hard rock/heavy metal concerts and party evenings, has changed its programming policies and now aims to become one of Bristol's biggest theatre venues, with an eclectic and daring program of theatre plays. They've kicked off this season with a fascinating piece called "As Without, So Within" by Awkward City Productions, a London based theatre company. Now playing is a double bill: "Shakespeare Unbound: A Gift to the Future" followed by "The Lover, The Wife": 3 actors, 2 plays, 1 evening! In "Shakespeare Unbound: A Gift to th Future," the date is 1623: John Heminges returns to his house on the site of the Globe Theatre with a precious package – the first edition of William Shakesepeare’s “Comedies, Histories and Tragedies”. As he starts to read through the plays, the memories come flooding back... In "The Lover, The Wife" Christine is bourgeois, sexually inhibited and stuck in her limited bourgeois world. One day, she decides to go and meet Lydia, her husbands lover... This Paris-based theatre company is currently on tour in England and it is playing Bristol's Bierkeller Theatre from Feb 1st through 9th (excepting Friday and Saturday) at 8:15pm. Doors open at 7:30pm so you can get a drink before the show. The tickets are reasonably-priced at only 10£ in advance or 12.50£ at the door.
